As a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the revolution, Eisenstein's masterpiece boasts inventive, rapid-cutting camera work (the film contains 1,300 separate shots) and one of the most famous sequences in the history of film: the massacre on the Odessa Steps. Commissioned to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Russian Revolution, 'October' (1927) uses montage and a documentary style to present the events of the Bolshevik uprising in 1917.
